History

For this moment, tulips are grown for the most part in peatmoss,
what has, despite of good quality results, many difficulties.
To get and get rid off peatmoss and sand is getting a bigger problem.
Recycling of peatmoss has it's risk. It's also very difficult to keep the stems clear from soil during harvest, which is a limitation for export to further distances.
Lifting and cleaning of the boxes is physical a heavy job when using peatmoss.
Other growing systems besides peatmoss have been tested on small scale: vermiculite, perlite, clayparts and water.
The biggest problem of these substrates was the planting of the bulb and how to keep it straight up during harvest. In general, the quality was good.
